- Ambleside year
- Year 10 onwards · ages 15–18
An Ambleside year is a year of the Ambleside Online programme, not a reader's age. Year 0 is its first year, and a book used over several years shows the span. The ages beside it are that band offered two grades up and none down, which is how we offer a band; they are a placement, not a reading measure.
Ian MacLaren was the pen name of John Watson, a minister of the Free Church of Scotland and the author of Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush. This is a book of essays about reading and about the people who read: old books and the collecting of them, humour in literature, the Scotland of Robert Burns, and the world of the Waverley novels. It is written for readers who already love books and want company in it.
