An Ambleside year is a year of the Ambleside Online programme, not a reader's age. Year 0 is its first year, and a book used over several years shows the span. The ages beside it are that band offered two grades up and none down, which is how we offer a band; they are a placement, not a reading measure.
Good-bye Mr. Chips is a novella about the life a schoolteacher, Mr. Chipping. Mr. Chips, as the boys call him, is conventional in his beliefs and exercises firm discipline. His views and manner change when he marries Katherine. She subsequently charms students, teachers, and school governors. Mr. Chips is an effective teacher, highly regarded by students and governors and, in his later years, develops a sense of humor that pleases all.
