An Ambleside year is a year of the Ambleside Online programme, not a reader's age. Year 0 is its first year, and a book used over several years shows the span. The ages beside it are that band offered two grades up and none down, which is how we offer a band; they are a placement, not a reading measure.
Psychology is a river with many branches and tributaries. This book is not intended to explore every branch but to chart the general direction and force of the stream. The criticisms I offer in the pages that follow are directed toward psychology as a social force: in other word, psychology as it influences our everyday ways of thinking and acting.
