While I'm thoroughly enjoying all of the Nature books for children currently reprinted by Yesterday's Classics, I have to admit that that my favorite writer is William J. Long. To me he seems to bring an extra touch of empathy & humility to his close observations of other animals in their natural habitat, so often reminding his young readers that these beautiful creatures have lives & feelings of their own. His keen writing style, often leavened with gentle humor, encourages both admiration & respect for those other animals.
