The Catalogue
Pick a bar to narrow the shelf. Every panel below follows the same filter — the two charts, the plot, and the list of books — and each bar says how many books choosing it would leave you with.
For the same counts drawn as figures, see Statistics.
6 of them record no publication year at all — show those books.
Titles by genre
Each bar counts the books of that genre which survive the year filter, so it says what picking that genre would leave you with. The 0 books filed under no genre at all are in no bar here.
Titles by year published
The whole timeline, back to the catalogue's oldest book. The bars widen as they go back, because equal-width bars across four thousand years would press everything before 1900 into a single pixel — where the statistics page leaves those books out of its chart and says so in the caption, the explorer has to be able to reach them, so its bars change width instead of stopping. Each bar counts the books of that era which survive the genre filter.
Two measures at a time
The books above, as dots. 97 of the 156 carry both measures and can be plotted; a book missing a measure has no place on that axis, so it is left off rather than drawn at zero. Each axis covers the middle 98% of what is shown, with 1 books outside the frame.
The dots outside your ranges are still drawn, faded, so that you can see what you are narrowing from; the bars above and the list below obey the ranges. 27 of the 156 books in view carry no measure on a ranged axis, so no range can place them — take the ranges off to see them.
Point at a dot to see which book it is, and where it sits on each axis. Click one to open that book's own page of neighbours — the same book, in the middle of a map, with the books closest to it around it.
